Is EPDM better than felt roofing?
EPDM can offer long service life and relatively few seams on suitable roofs, while good modern felt remains an effective and proven system. The better option depends on roof design, detailing, budget and installer competence rather than the material name alone.

EPDM is a single-ply rubber membrane, usually laid in large sheets with bonded details; felt systems are built up in layers, traditionally torched or bonded. Both can perform well, and both fail early when detailing or deck preparation is poor.
Installation quality and the state of the deck are consistently better predictors of how long a flat roof lasts than the choice between these two systems.
Where each tends to suit
Large, simple roofs suit a single sheet with few joints. Roofs with many upstands, penetrations and awkward shapes need careful detailing whichever system is used, and that detailing is where the skill lies.
Ask to see how a contractor forms outlets and upstands rather than comparing material names alone.
