Lead flashing costs depend on the length and complexity of the detail, whether existing lead can be repaired or must be replaced, and the access required. Chimneys and stepped flashing typically involve more labour and detailing than a simple straight section.
What a flashing repair involves
Lead flashing is a formed, dressed detail rather than a strip of material stuck to a wall. Doing it properly means cutting or raking out the joint, fixing and wedging the lead, and dressing it to the profile of the covering.
The cost therefore depends on the length and complexity of the detail — a straight abutment is simpler than a stepped chimney with front apron, soakers and back gutter.
Repair or replace
Where lead has split, fatigued or been fixed with sealant as a temporary measure, replacing the detail generally lasts far longer than patching it. Sealant applied over failed lead is one of the most common things we are called back to.
