What happens if my new roof starts leaking?
Notify the roofing contractor promptly and document where and when the problem appears. The contractor should normally be given an opportunity to inspect whether the issue relates to covered workmanship, a product defect, an unrelated building problem or damage occurring after installation.
What to do first
Report it to the contractor in writing as soon as you notice it, describing where the water appears and when. Photographs and dates make the conversation much easier.
Keep a record of what you reported and when, and allow reasonable access for them to inspect and put it right.
If it is not resolved
Check the guarantee terms and any insurance-backed policy, and follow the complaints route set out in your paperwork.
Where a leak on new work is disputed, an independent inspection with photographs gives you an objective account of what has failed.
