Should I have my roof inspected after a storm?
Inspection can be worthwhile after severe weather, particularly if the property is exposed, you have heard materials move or you notice changes from ground level. Slipped tiles, damaged ridge components, chimney problems and wind uplift may not always be obvious without a closer view.
Why a post-storm check is worthwhile
Storm damage is frequently partial: a few loosened units, a lifted flashing, a displaced ridge tile. Those are easy to miss from ground level and easy to deal with while they are still small.
Finding them early also means any insurance claim is made close to the event, when the link between the weather and the damage is clearest.
What the inspection should cover
Coverings, ridge and verge details, flashings, rainwater goods and the roof space where accessible, with photographs of anything found.
If the roof cannot be safely accessed after severe weather, aerial photography is often the practical way to see the whole surface.
