Is a drone inspection useful for fragile or old roofs?
Yes. On fragile slate, brittle coverings or ageing roofs, reducing unnecessary foot traffic during the initial assessment can be valuable. A drone can document visible condition first so any later physical access can be planned more carefully.
Looking without loading
Fragile coverings and older roofs can be damaged by foot traffic, and walking a suspect roof carries obvious risk. Photographing it from the air removes both problems for the inspection stage.
That makes it particularly useful on older properties, outbuildings and roofs where the covering's condition is unknown.
After the survey
Where imagery shows a defect that needs physical work, access still has to be arranged safely and appropriately for the covering involved.
The survey's value is in knowing exactly where that access is needed rather than exploring at height.
