Does scaffolding cost extra for roof repairs?
Sometimes. Scaffolding may be included in the roofing quotation or shown as a separate cost, depending on the contractor and job. The need for scaffolding is determined by safe access requirements, roof height, work duration and the task being carried out.
When scaffolding is the right call
Scaffolding is about safe, stable working at height for the duration of the job. It is normally needed where work continues over a period, where materials have to be handled on the roof, or where the height, pitch or ground conditions make ladder work unsuitable.
For a short repair at low level, other access arrangements may be appropriate. The decision is a safety one before it is a cost one.
What to expect on a quotation
Access should be identified separately in a written quotation so you can see what it covers, including erection, hire period and removal. Hidden access costs are a common cause of disputes.
If two quotations differ significantly, access arrangements are one of the first things worth comparing.
